Store Execution

Shell enhances store-level operations with Blue Yonder

L'azienda

Every day, about 33 million consumers shop at 47,000 Shell locations around the world. Consumers can access Shell’s petrol, diesel, gas, LNG, and hydrogen stations or charging points on Shell forecourts. They can also enjoy a coffee, snack, or fresh sandwich from the adjoining Shell Café.

La sfida aziendale

Shell in Slovakia and Czech Republic identified opportunities to enhance the usability and mobility of its previous Blue Yonder Store Execution system. While the previous version was robust and rich in data, Blue Yonder worked closely with Shell to optimize the interface and functionality—making the system more intuitive, mobile-friendly, and accessible directly from the shop floor.

These enhancements allowed store managers to engage more actively with staff and focus on elevating customer experience, rather than being tied to back-office PCs.

La soluzione

Shell worked with Blue Yonder to develop a new mobile component to the system which allows site managers to do more, intuitive-based work with less training. Now they can spend more time out on the store shop than in the back office. Store Execution, which is powered by Microsoft Azure, is used to forecast demand, order products, optimize store inventory, capture and manage point-of-sale data, and accomplish back-office accounting tasks.

“Shell is committed to improving store-level operations to better respond to changing conditions and customer needs. With mobile access to Store Execution, our teams can work more flexibly, make informed decisions, and maintain high service standards.”

Streamlined store operations

Managing daily store activities involves balancing multiple responsibilities. Shell has adopted Blue Yonder’s mobile solution across Slovakia and the Czech Republic to support tasks such as forecasting, ordering, replenishment, and accounting. This approach helps site managers stay focused on customer service and store performance.

Smarter inventory and replenishment
Today, Shell is benefitting from the improved capabilities of Store Execution—Blue Yonder’s SaaS solution for convenience retailers—to automate the daily activities of forecasting, ordering, replenishment, and inventory placement. The retailer is also leveraging real-time cash, items, and price management functionality to keep stores running efficiently. Powerful reporting and analytics keep Shell on track to optimize ordering, minimize inventory investments, enhance service and availability, and increase sales by reducing stockouts.

Powered by Microsoft Azure
From an IT standpoint, Store Execution—delivered on the Microsoft Azure platform—can contribute to a lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Shell benefits from faster upgrades and improved connectivity, which helps stores stay responsive and efficient.

Using the latest mobile technology from Blue Yonder from automated forecasting, ordering, and replenishment to fast, accurate inventory execution, Shell continues to improve service quality and item availability, while enhancing operational efficiency and managing inventory investments effectively.
